The Design

This handmade frame was designed and built for a client with a personal set of requirements. The process started by designing a shape suitable for the facial features of the user. The most promising designs were then further developed based on the acquired measurements of user’s face, and their mock-ups were built for testing. After a model was selected by the user, the model-making process started by first cutting out a precise lens-hole on a low-cost piece. This piece was then used as a pattern for cutting out both holes and the lens groove from the final material. Cutting the outline of the frame and the handles and shaping these parts with hand tools were the next steps. Finally, the screw hinges and the nose pads were added and assembled.
